My name is Krista Patton and I currently live 20 minutes East of Nashville; however, I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee. My certifications are in Elementary Education K-6 and Art Education K-12. This will be my 17th year teaching. I began my career teaching grades 6-12 at a private school. For the last ten years, I have been teaching Art and Response to Intervention classes for grades 6-8 at a public school. I am passionate about education and hope to pursue an administrative role in the future. I currently serve as a team leader. I have enjoyed mentoring other teachers and being involved in helping to create a positive school culture, which I believe is extremely important. Outside of work, I enjoy being on the water with my family. My husband and I are both lake and ocean lovers and we have two little mermaids (ages 13 and 3) who love the water as well. If I am outside and the sun is shining, I am happy!

Revised Leadership Philosophy EAD- 536 December 17, 2022
“If our sails are set correctly, our personal leadership philosophy — not the gales we encounter every day — will tell us where to go.” (Benson, 2018) My personal values and beliefs that were expressed above are still the same values that drive me today. Over the course of this program and as my confidence and knowledge has been built through the different experiences and research my leadership style has fully developed into servant leadership. I still believe that among other aspects, the emphasis of relationships and building trust with others is embedded within my personal values that guide me through leadership. However, I see the value in building a great team of experts and facilitating them through their professional growth. Being a school leader involves so many other aspects that I did not know much about when I started the program. However, I fully believe that by emphasizing a school culture that respects and values all of its members while pursuing the same school improvement goals is key. Finally, as a servant leader, I can see that it is my job to truly lead by example, be willing to serve in anyway, and foster the growth of the professionals around me so that together we can create the best school possible. |
Leadership Philosophy EAD- 501 October 6, 2021
“If our sails are set correctly, our personal leadership philosophy — not the gales we encounter every day — will tell us where to go.” (Benson, 2018) Based on my personal values and beliefs that were expressed above, I am currently aligned with transformational leadership with the goal of moving into servant leadership as I mature in my leadership abilities. Among other aspects, the emphasis of relationships and building trust with others that is embedded within my personal values fits transformational leadership over transactional leadership. I genuinely value the opinions and ideas of others and enjoy the teamwork aspect of that leadership style. I differ from the transformational style in that I do not want sole credit for goals or achievements. I also value the service aspect of being a servant leader, however there are areas that need improvement before I can achieve this style of leadership.
